LAFAYETTE — William Eugene "Bill” Ferguson, 66, formerly of 305 Montefiore St., Lafayette, and had been residing at Regency Place in Lafayette, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 1999 in Regency Place. He had been in failing health for the past seven months. Born Aug. 12, 1932 in Neoga, Ill., he was the son of the Rev. John C. and Lydia F. Brown Ferguson. He married Anna Marie Krueger in 1954 while stationed in Frankfort, Germany. She preceded him in death. He married Gloria Hopkins Uerkwitz June 14, 1969 in Lafayette, who survives. He resided in Central Illinois and Central Indiana, and many years in Attica. He had resided in Lafayette since 1991. He graduated from Attica High School in 1950. He attended Greenville College and the University of North Carolina. He later graduated from Central College in North Carolina. He retired from his career in the U. S. Air Force serving during the Korean and Viet Nam wars and for special assignments as directed by the secretary of defense. He retired on Dec. 31, 1974, after 24 years of service as a chief master sergeant. He was a former member of the Attica Free Methodist Church. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 3318 of Attica; American Legion Post of Sanford, N.C.; Elks Lodge of Milford, Ill.; and Eagles Lodge 2596 of Attica. Survivors include: sister, Lenys (Fred) Workman, Lafayette; five grandchildren; three nephews, one niece; four great-nephews; and six great-nieces; He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Battleson. Friends called from 1-2 p.m. Saturday with military gravesite services at 2:30 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Attica, with the Rev. Melvin Nead officiating. Maus Funeral Home, Attica, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to Regency Place, Lafayette. – jlr
